Hi there!  I'm Marty, the Spokespug for Hug A Pug AZ Rescue and Adoption Group!

Here's a little about me and my story. I was abandoned at PACC after I got eye infections and my owner didn't help me.  The Dogtor was able to save only one of my eyes so now I look like a pirate with no eye patch LOL!  I was fortunate enough to find my forever home when I was adopted 3 years ago.  Thank goodness I still see OK out of my good eye.  I am only 7 and now I go to the dog park with my buddies and have tons of energy and love to give kisses and I love to get cuddles and butt scratches from my people!  The best thing is though... I forgot about all that pain and stress from my former life because I have a GREAT forever home with Ed and Peggy!  They're Volunteers at Hug A Pug Rescue and I was lucky enought to be their first foster pug.  Now I have a forever home with 3 other rescued pugs and I LOVE my people and my awesome home.  I get plenty of love and attention now, when before I was neglected and abandoned.  I want to thank Michelle, who rescued me from euthanasia by picking me up at Pima Animal Care Center.

Okay, enough about me... now back to business!

***The top 10 most urgent and important things that I want to tell you as a spokespug are:

#1:  Please spay and neuter your animals!  This prevents abuse and unnecessary euthanasia if your pet is lost or stolen!

#2:  Please vaccinate your pets, and get your pets microchipped!  That way if we get lost we can find you and come home with minimal effort on your part!

#3:  Understand that we're not perfect!  We sometimes have accidents and with a little patience and training we'll do anything we can to please you!

#4:  If you know a human who is abusing or neglecting an animal, please speak up!  There are people there to help!

#5:  If you see an animal running loose with no ID who doesn't seem to have an owner around, please pick him or her up and post an ad on Craigslist or contact Hug A Pug AZ.  We'll do all we can to get him or her home!

#6:  If you want to foster a pug or pug mix, or know someone who would make a great foster parent or forever home, contact Michelle or Peggy from Hug A Pug AZ by clicking here.

#7:  If you have pets in your home, give them the unconditional love they give you.  Keep them safe, warm, and feed them regularly. Get their teeth cleaned at least once a year, and take them to regular Dogtor checkups on schedule to keep them healthy and maximize their lives!

#8:  If your animal starts acting strange or doing things such as excessive scratching or whining, pay attention!  Take him or her to the Dogtor because they rely on you to be their pet parent and take care of them before the problem gets out of control!  For emergencies get them to an emergency vet asap!  For a list of some emergency veterinary centers in Tucson click here!

#9:  We pugs love people food and will do just about anything to get it.  Please keep us on a regular feeding schedule and keep human food to a minimum.  Animal obesity is a huge cause of early death and can be avoided by simply monitoring your pet's food intake.

#10:  NEVER FEED YOUR dog any of these human foods:  Chocolate, Grapes or Raisins, Onions, Avocado, Bread Dough, Garlic, Macadamia Nuts, Persimmons, Sugar and Salt, Coffee, Milk, Peaches, Plums, Apricots, Gum, Raw Eggs, Bones, and ABSOLUTELY NO Alcohol or Drugs of ANY kind that are not prescribed by the Dogtor!  These can cause kidney or organ failure and are OFF LIMITS!

Hey, thanks for reading my tips, and let me know if you want to rescue or donate to a pug in need.  We're always in need of donations since our rescue pays for all the veterinary and other needs out of pocked themselves, and all our stellar fosters and volunteers have regular jobs too!  You can donate to our current veterinary bill at the bottom of this page... currently we owe about $1,600.00 to Dogtor Nightengale, and we get new rescues every few days!!

Thanks again and BE A GOOD PET PARENT
!

HUGS...
